With his wife, Christin, holding the Bible, Tom Kendrick was administered his oath of office as new LaSalle Parish Assessor by District Attorney J. Reed Walters during a brief ceremony last Thursday afternoon, Jan. 3, in the Courtroom of the LaSalle Parish Courthouse. Kendrick was elected to the position at the fall 2011 elections, but his term of office did not begin until January 1, 2013. His first term will end on December 31, 2016. Kendrick succeeds Aron Johnson, who served as Assessor for the past four years after being elected in 2007, to replace retiring Assessor Jimmy Dean who held the post for 32 years. During the ceremony last week, Kendrick thanked everyone for their support and asked citizens to bear with him as he begins his first term. “We are there to serve you. If you have a problem or issue, come to me and let’s talk. If I can help, I will; but if I can’t, I will tell you why.” After Kendrick received his oath of office, Walters administered the oath to all five Deputy Assessors who will serve with the new official.
